Since 1990, the company has become known as Suzuki Motor Corporation. In 1991, a Magyar Suzuki plant was built in Hungary, in which $230 million was invested. In 1993, a joint venture was established in China. In 1994, the Alto van minivan was introduced to the Japanese market, which became the most inexpensive car in the country ($5,000). In 1998, General Motors increased its stake in Suzuki to 10%, the Japanese company became in fact a division of small cars of the American concern, whose products were focused on Asia, Eastern Europe (Hungary, Poland) and Latin America (Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela, Argentina), also, a significant portion of sales came from the United States. In 2008, General Motors sold its stake in Suzuki.
In December 2009, Suzuki entered into an alliance with the German Volkswagen Group, exchanging stakes with the latter and announcing the joint development of environmentally friendly cars. Less than two years later, in September 2011, the breakup of this alliance was announced. In November 2012, Suzuki stopped selling cars in the US, sales peaked in 2007, but then they began to fall rapidly.
In 2017, a partnership with Toyota began.
